Types of Asphalt Plant

On the basis of design, there are basically two types of Asphalt Plant (1) Asphalt Batch Mix Plant and (2) Asphalt Drum Mix Plant. Asphalt Plants are popularly known as Asphalt Mixing Plant, Asphalt Drum Mix Plant, Hot Mix Plant or Asphalt Mixer.

In Asphalt Batching Plant, drying and heating of aggregates takes place in a rotary drum and heated aggregates are weighed & screened in hot bins for proportioning prior to blending with asphalt in separate pugmill type mixer to make up one batch. It is also known as discontinuous type of asphalt plant.

In Asphalt Drum Mix Plant the heating, drying and blending of aggregates with the asphalt takes place in the same drum where in feeding of aggregates & asphalt, and output of hot mix asphalt is continuous. It is also known as continuous type asphalt plant.
