Bitumen Decanter
Bitumen or asphalt as a commodity can be available in liquid state supplied in bitumen bowsers or in solid state packed in drums / barrels. Liquid bitumen is used as binder in production of hot mix asphalt by asphalt plant. Often the bitumen is available in solid state in packed drums / barrels, so it is required to melt the bitumen in liquid state for use. Bitumen Drum Decanter, also named as Bitumen Melting Machine, is equipment devised to melt the solid bitumen in the drum.

Bitumen decanter is an insulated enclosed box type of unit for heating the bitumen drums. It is divided in two sections i.e. upper and lower section. The upper section has hot oil circulating coils and houses the drums to be heated for bitumen melting, and lower portion has reservoir tank for molten bitumen. For bitumen drums, there is entry gates in front side of the unit and exit gates on the rear side. Hydraulic lifters on the entry gates lift the drum upside down and load in the unit. Depending on the model of bitumen drum decanter, two to four rows, each row of 9 or 10 drums, can be melted in a batch.
Complete package for Bitumen Drum Decanter Unit should consist of:
- Thermic Oil Heater for generating hot oil
- Main Bitumen Melting unit with hydraulic lifters and reservoir tank
- Power Pack unit for hydraulic lifters
- Bitumen Pumping unit for pumping the bitumen from reservoir
- Bitumen Storage tank for storing the liquid bitumen pumped from reservoir
- Accessories like temperature gauge, temperature sensors, bitumen and hot oil piping etc.
